Not all droids are cute and friendly like R2-D2 and BB-8...
Inwar of starsDroids fill all sorts of roles, from simple laborers to highly skilled surgeons and battlefield generals. But some droids specialize in combat and mayhem. Deadly droids have their own nuances of lethality, from regular battle droids whose strength lies in numbers (rather than accuracy) to units of team-based assassin troopers, assassin droids, and repurposed protection droids that are packed with weapons and tactics. Here are some of the deadliest droids to ever activate circuitry in a galaxy far, far away.
1.K-2SO
as seen atRogue One: A Star Wars Story, K-2SO was a demolition machine droid who worked for the Rebel Alliance. Originally deployed as the standard Imperial KX security droid, it had all the deadly attributes of its series: superhuman proportions, athletic agility, and the ability to wield weapons or simply pulverize enemies with its bare fists. Reprogrammed to work for the Rebellion, Kaytoo became a perfect Insertion Agent, able to insert into Imperial facilities where KX Enforcers often had freelance roles. Once inside, he could carry out his own missions undetected, or turn down unsuspecting stormtroopers in a fight. Kaytoo also served as Cassian Andor's co-pilot, assisting in the release of Jyn Erso from Imperial custody and in attacks on Imperial forces on Jedha. He met a noble end on Scarif, sacrificing himself to hold off stormtroopers at a chokepoint while giving Jyn and Cassian access to the datanodes containing the Death Star's plans. While not infiltrators like Kaytoo, regular KX security droids posed a challenge in combat even for lightsaber-wielding fighters like Cal Kestis, although stealth droids could override their programming.
2.IG-88
In a galaxy of organic beings that still feared droids after the Clone Wars, a few assassin droids topped the list of mechanical beings you never wanted to meet unexpectedly: models from the various IG series of assassin droids . Earlier lines included the IG-RM's bodyguard droids, some of whom found work with others, such as the smuggler Cikatro Vizago, and the IG-86's assassin droids, often used by criminals such as Ziro the Hutt. But the most feared of these droids was IG-88, who worked entirely independently as an assassin and bounty hunter. First seen inWar of stars:The Empire Strikes Back, IG-88 was one of the best bounty hunters in the galaxy and was hired by Darth Vader to track them downMillennium Falconafter the Battle of Hoth. But prior to this job, he had run-ins with Q'ira, Leia Organa, and Sabine Wren. With an arsenal that included pulse cannons and a neural inhibitor, IG-88 also had a variety of onboard weapons, such as a flamethrower and poison gas dispenser.
3rd and 4th 0-0-0 and BT-1
When it comes to deadly duos, 0-0-0 (Triple Zero) and BT-1 should be high on your list. Looking like an evil version of C-3PO and R2-D2, these sadistic droids began their union under the employ of Doctor Aphra and Darth Vader. First appearance in the third number of theStar Wars: Darth VaderKieron Gillen and Salvador Larroca's series, these counterparts had a penchant for violence and destruction, be it toward organics or their droid counterparts. Triple Zero was a dark silver, red-eyed protocol droid with a built-in flamethrower and electroshock system. He enjoyed interrogations and once said he drained the blood of his former masters. Bee Tee may look like a run-of-the-mill astromech, but don't let your guard down: he destroyed his creators and went rogue before falling under Doctor Aphra's control. Able to travel with its own rocket boosters, it was literally a walking weapons factory, capable of crafting the ammunition needed for its variety of weapons: blaster rifles, rocket launchers, and the ever-popular flamethrower.
5. Mr Bone
Although ubiquitous during the Clone Wars, B1 battle droids became rare in the years that followed as they were largely decommissioned or decommissioned. But a generation later, a B1 battle droid became his protector and friend. With Chuck WendigWar of stars:aftermathtrilogy was built by young Waif Temmin "Snap" Wexley Mister Bones on Akiva. Programmed with martial arts and acrobatic skills, Bones had a built-in vibroblade and blaster. Snap's trusty companion was painted in a red and black skeleton design and had real bones in its head and shoulders. He often sang while "committing violence" and was later given additional joints to improve flexibility and the ability to repair himself. Unfortunately, Mister Bones was destroyed in the Battle of Jakku after rescuing Temmin.
6. Magnaguardia
The IG-100 MagnaGuard was a bodyguard droid favored by General Grievous and other Separatist leaders during the Clone Wars. First seen inWar of stars:Rache der Sithon board theman invisible, a pair of MagnaGuards were able to stop Jedi Anakin Skywalker and Obi-Wan Kenobi. Armed with batons that interfere with lightsabers, these cloaked droids often worked in pairs to overwhelm their enemies. One of his most enduring abilities was being able to keep fighting after losing a limb or even his head. The MagnaGuards, also using rocket launchers and laser darts and capable of piloting their own starfighters, clashed with Jedi several times during the war, including Ahsoka Tano on Tatooine, Kit Fisto, and Nahdar Vebb on a moon of Vassek, and even took Anakin Skywalker captured on Naboo. Though deadly to many, the MagnaGuards posed no problem for Obi-Wan Kenobi, who easily defeated four of them on Utapau.
7. IT-O
While many of the droids on this list were deadly in combat, the IT-O interrogation droid was a fearsome and deadly droid without ever having to use a weapon. In his cell aboard the Death StarWar of stars:A new hopePrincess Leia was one of the few people who faced the threat of this methodical tormentor and didn't back down. No easy feat, with IT-O's collection of tools to break through a victim's mental and physical defenses: Mind Probes, Bone Shatterers, Influence Drugs, Meat Strippers, and Electroshock Probes. Both Kanan Jarrus and Hera Syndulla were interrogated by IT-O units. An IT-O received a new mission from the New Republic in the home of Alexander Freed.War of stars:Alphabet Squad. In lieu of interrogation, Ito was reprogrammed as a therapist for Yrica Quell to help her overcome the trauma of participating in Operation Cinder, but was also used as a loyalty tester by her supervisor, Caern Adan.
8. droids
The droideka, or destroyer droid, was a fearsome sight on the battlefield of the clone wars. The Droideka can quickly roll in an area, stand on three legs, charge its shield and fire from two blaster cannons. Originally published inWar of stars:ghost menace, the Destroyers proved to be more than Qui-Gon Jinn and Obi-Wan Kenobi could handle aboard the Trade Federation ship. With shields capable of protecting him from almost any personal blaster and rapid-fire blaster fire, he was a difficult opponent to fight, especially in small groups. Anakin Skywalker was able to destroy several in the Naboo hangar with an N-1 fighter, but years later he realized surrender was the only option when confronted by a group of them in the droid factory on Geonosis. Sometimes luck was a more important factor than skill when destroying a droid, like Jar Jar Binks did in the Plains of Naboo: an entangled battle droid accidentally shot a destroyer droid in the leg, causing it to fall.
9.IG-11
Looking at this list shows that the IG droids performed some deadly mechanics, and IG-11 was no exception. IG-11, a bounty hunter, featured in the first chapter ofthere Mandalorians. The assassin droid tasked with killing the child had not anticipated that Mando would shoot and disable it. His body was recovered by Kuill, who repaired and reprogrammed it to help out on the Ugnaught Steam Farm. When Din Djarin returned to Kuill with Cara Dune, the reformed IG droid offered them tea. But when Grogu was kidnapped by Imperial scouts on Nevarro and Kuill was killed, IG pulverized the soldiers and rescued his charge. On the way to the city, IG-11 killed dozens of stormtroopers, completely twisted his torso in all directions and carried Grogu to a relatively safe place. Later, he would make the ultimate sacrifice to save the boy and his friends.
10. HK-47
Thousands of years before the Empire, one droid became the ultimate killing machine of its time: HK-47. appearing inWar of stars:Knights of the Old Republicvideo game (now under the Legends banner), HK was an amoral killer who referred to organic products as "meat bags." The hunter-killer-assassin droid, speaking in his unique way, felt superior to most life forms save for his master, Revan. Appearing as a protocol droid and fluent in thousands of languages, he was sometimes underestimated until his blaster rifle showed up. He used a variety of weapons when facing a Jedi opponent: a sniper rifle when at range, and grenades, sonic weapons, rockets, mines, and poison gas - all things that could not be deflected with a lightsaber. Almost a sociopath, he relished destruction and encouraged his master's lethal behavior. Despite his murderous tendencies, he became a hero of the Republic for his role in defeating Darth Malak and destroying the Star Forge.
